Here's a game I come back to once every few years or so. It's an adventure/Rpg game created by Kemco in the early 1990s for SNES. It's not very well known, but it is one of the most underrated for the system. It is actually the sequel to a game called Drakkhen, which was not all that great of a game, in my opinion.

In the game, you start out as the typical hero-in-training whose girlfriend gets abducted by an evil sorcerer; pretty typical story. What's unique about this game is the transition from world map to dungeon and town. The dungeons, mountains, forests, towns, etc. are all in sidescrolling beat-em-up fashion. While in town you can talk to the residents, buy stuff, find clues, and save your game at the temple. Each dungeon is a maze-like configuration of various rooms and, in some cases, traps. Upgrades are available for your sword, armor, and boomerang item, but they must be found in the field, and usually not in towns. The music is actually quite good, and sets the mood nicely. Levels are also gained from fighting monsters over and over.

The biggest downfall of the game has to be the world map, which is a grainy, pixellated mess from a first-person view. It can be confusing wandering around, but luckily you can always check out your position on the clearly marked map. Had the overworld function been better, the game would have been a lot more desirable.

All in all, it's a fun game that is worth checking out if you have never played it. It has more of a nostalgic value for me since I rented it back in the day. So if you enjoy Adventure/RPG hybrids with leveling up, interesting puzzles, and lots of exploration, see if you can track down Dragon View. While not one of the best of its kind, it is still quite good considering what it was put up against on the Super Nintendo; it's not easy to compete with those early Nintendo games.
