The Atari 1050 was a floppy disk drive for the Atari 8-bit family home computers released in June 1983. It was compatible with the 90 kB single-density mode of the original Atari 810 it replaced, and added a new "enhanced" or "dual density" mode that provided 130 kB. Based on a half-height Tandon mechanism, it was much smaller than the 810 and matched the styling of the new 600XL and 800XL machines.

(*Drive are untested but do power on properly.  they might require a head realignment to function properly.)

Disk Drive for the Atari 8 bit Computers

I have and still own several of these disk drives (Atari 1050) and they all still operate today. While slow in todays technology speed/terms, it was one of the faster drives in the early 1980's and would load games and programs faster than some systems. There were some games made for the Atari that had several disk used to play the game, so it was nice to have more than one disk drive so that you could have disk one in one drive and the second disk in a second drive to keep from having to stop/pause playing the game to change disk. One of my favorite games Alternate Reality The Dungeon, I think had four disk. It was a large 3D role playing game of the time. The drive has two SIO ports so you can daisy chain the hardware. This means that you could have several disk drives, a printer, and other items connected to the computer at the same time. The disk drive allows you to play larger, more involved games on the Atari computer than the smaller memory game cart. Great addition to an Atari 8 bit computer system.
